About a month or so ago while I was watching TV, a
Maybelline advert popped up advertising their brand new
'Fit Me' Foundation, at the end of the advert was a voice over prompting viewers to apply for a free sample via their website.
Now, never one to turn down a free sample I headed online to get one ordered, I'm pretty fair skinned so I opted for the lightest shade available 115, which turned up on my doorstep last Friday.
If I'm being absolutely honest, the foundation couldn't have come at a better time, usually, I'm not a fan of foundation and haven't worn any for years (the closest I get to foundation is
Benefit's Some Kinda Wonderful which I wear on nights out) preferring
tinted moisturisers or
BB Creams on a day to day basis, but my skin has been awful since I went on a night out a few weeks ago, a mass of spots have appeared all over my chin and around my mouth so I was desperate for some extra coverage.
'Fit Me' is a gel based foundation, which I've not come across before, especially not on the high street so I was interested to try this, having combination skin I like gel based skincare products so I was hoping for a similar result from this.
There is also a concealer and setting powder available as part of the
'Fit Me' range so I would also like to try these at some stage, I like the fact that they've brought all 3 products out at once, normally you find that they test the water by releasing one product and then adding others at a later date.
There are 12 shades available in the foundation (I guess the idea is that one will 'fit' each individual customer)
I thought this was a pretty good match for my skin (this is the palest shade of the lot) normally the really fair shades tend to have a bit of an orange tint to them or make you look like a ghost so I was pretty impressed so far.
The foundation is a light fluid that rubbed in easily (I just used my finger on the back of my hand to rub in the excess but I used a foundation brush on my face) it didn't leave any tide marks - my pet hate with foundations!
And here is the finished result (please ignore my dodgy quiff, for some reason my hair wouldn't behave itself!)
I did apply a primer before my foundation and I set with translucent powder afterwards, I topped up my powder half way through the day (as I normally do) but I'm pleased to announce that the foundation did last all day and I didn't encounter any of it rubbing off or transferring, it also felt really light on my skin, almost as if I wasn't wearing any make-up which is always an added bonus.
I'd say this is a light to medium coverage, you could still see my freckles and a few of my spots, but once I added concealer they weren't nearly as noticeable.
Saying that though I do think you could easily build up to a higher coverage if required.
It is quite hard to find a foundation that will last all day on combination skin but this one did a pretty job, and I'm pleased to announce that I haven't broke out into any more spots since using this product so I think it would be fine to use even on sensitive skin.
The foundation retails for about £7.99 which I think is a great price, I've been using the tester everyday for the last five days, its only supposed to last for 7 days but I'm only half way through the tube so I think it would last you a while before you need to repurchase.
The actual bottle the foundation comes in looks very Chanel like (see picture posted at the top of the page) which I think is great for such a bargain product.
To say I'm not normally a foundation fan and I'm glad I gave this a go and I would quite happily go out and purchase this once my Some Kinda Wonderful is empty.
Has anyone else tried this or the concealer or powder? I'd love to know what you thought!
With love,
Kimberley x
