Happy Halloween!!!!

I'm not actually sure what's scarier, the fact that it's Halloween or that yet another month has flown by!

Aside from all things horrifying, fancy dress and sweets Halloween is always the symbol for me that Winter is approaching fast!

So what better way to welcome Winter than by getting a new pair of Uggs?

By getting 2 pairs of Uggs of course! (No, unfortunately I'm not loaded but me and my lovely Mum decided to go halves on 2 pairs)

I've got a grey and chestnut pair already but I was desperate to get a black pair because black goes with everything, I fell a little bit in love with the Navy ones when I saw them and its one of my favourite Winter colours so I'm sure I'll get my wear out of them!

I've also picked up some new goodies today so watch out for some reviews ...

Soap & Glory Overhaul

Wow!

Has it really been that long since I posted?! :-O

Anyway, you'll be glad to know that I haven't fallen completely off the radar but that I have been playing with some new make up goodies in my absence :)

I think by now you probably all know that I have a bit of a love (bordering on obsession!) with Benefit! And as much as I love them the only thing that makes me wince sometimes is their less than purse friendly prices!

I've been using Soap and Glory skincare and body products for a good few years now, they're affordable and effective and fuel my love of all things vintage and girly, so when I discovered they were adding a cosmetics line to their already amazing product range I was well and truly in my element!

There's a great range of products available within the cosmetics range and I didn't have a clue where to start, I was like a kid in a sweet shop!
Eventually, I decided on Solar Powder (£11.00), Cheekmate (£8.00), Thick & Fast Mascara (£10,00) and Glow Job (£9.00).

The packaging reminds me very much of Benefit's range so visually I was very impressed, now the million dollar question is do they match up quality wise?

The first product up for review is Solar Powder:

Brilliant, brush-on, multi-shade shimmering bronzer & highlighting brick for beautifully luminous skin. The greatest glow on earth!

First of all, I LOVE the packaging!!! I adore anything vintage and this gorgeous little compact was definitely made to be seen!

I love the mirror in the top of the compact, a lot of blushers and bronzers seem to be missing this so I thought it was a nice little touch!

The actual bronzer itself is split into two different sections, the section on the left is a bronzing powder and the lighter shade on the right is a highlighing powder.

Using my trusty kabuki brush I swirl it around the two powders before brushing onto my cheekbones.
As I've mentioned before I'm not a big make-up wearer so I just apply a tiny bit of bronzer over the top of a tinted moisturiser or BB Cream just to give me a bit of colour.

I'm loving the highlighter as well! I've used this on its own a couple of times (as you can probably tell from the picture above!) to accentuate my brow bones and temples, although it has a shimmer, its only slight so its natural enough in the day but it can be built up if necessary for evening or special occasion wear.

This is lovely to apply and feels gorgeous on my skin, I couldn't actually get over how similar this is to my beloved Benefit 10 but at £11.00 its more affordable and I will certainly be replacing this when it runs out.

Next up is Cheekmate a refreshing gel stain with BLUSHBOOT™ technology to enhance circulation in the capillaries of the skin

I thought this little baby might be a good dupe for Benetint,
If I'm being totally honest Benetint is the only product I don't like! I received a mini version in a kit once and it was ridiculously runny and didn't blend well at all.

On a normal day to day basis I use Posietint but when I go out I find its a little bit too light so I was after something a bit darker.

It is quite a small product but in all fairness you don't really need to use much of it to get a desired result so in my opinion, its worth the money.

With it being in a squeezy tube I also found it easier to control how much of the product you need to distribute.

Left Benetint, Right Cheekmate

Just for reference I applied Cheekmate alongside Benetint and you can see the difference straight away, Cheekmate is an almost gel like consistency which I found made it 10 times better to apply and blend, its also a gorgeous ruby red colour, don't be alarmed though once blended you get a lovely rosy glow, great when you want to add a little bit more depth to your complexion without going OTT.

I'm not exactly sure if it gave me enhanced circulation in the capillaries of the skin it did give my cheeks some colour so I'm happy enough with that :)

I would be interested to try this product in other shades so I guess we'll have to see if Soap and Glory make any other additions in the future.

Next up is Thick & Fast Mascara ...

Its safe to say that I'm a bit of a beauty junkie and although I try a fair few mascaras its quite rare that I actually find one I like, usually there tends to be something missing.

The packaging is simple but effective and the wand and brush is a massive plus point for me!
I hate all these spikey plasticy new fangled brushes that adorn all the current mascaras, I don't know why but they hurt my eyelashes and I never feel like I get a good enough coverage.

Call me old fashioned but I like a nice big brush that covers my lashes in one go.

1 coat of Thick & Fast Mascara (excuse the eyes and circles! It was 7.30am!)

The actual consistency is quite hard to describe, its not too wet, not too dry but seems to be pretty good all the same.

It doesn't clump, brushes through easily and can be built up if you require a couple of coats of mascara to achieve your desired look.

I will admit, I was quite cautious purchasing a non waterproof mascara, but I've had no issues with this what so ever, it hasn't run or smudged and I've been wearing it everyday for about a month now.

At £10,00 its not exactly cheap but I do really like it so I would happily repurchase it.

The final product is Glow Job ...

A two-in-one moisturizing lotion and temporary self-tanner, Glow Job™ features micro Bronzeburst™ Beads that ‘pop’ when you massage them, leaving you looking, healthy, refreshed, and just ever so slightly sun-kissed

Seeing as though I'm pretty fair skinned I thought this might be nice to apply in place of my trusty tinted moisturiser when I need a bit of colour (e.g when I don't want to resemble a zombie!)

I was impressed with the size of the actual product, the box it came in was a decent size and I wrongly assumed this would be half the size so that was a pleasant surprise :)

Glow Job is a creamy coloured lotion with brown bronzing beads embedded in it, the idea is that you apply a small amount on the back of your hand and rub it until the beads burst.

This smells like chocolate orange which I absolutely loved :) It also gave a really nice subtle glow, I was worried that it might make me look like I'd been tangoed!

I've only worn this a couple of times so can't comment on how long the bottle lasts buts its great for a complexion enhancing boost!

So there you have it! Overall I'm impressed with these products and would consider repurchasing all 4 of them again.

Although it might be a while, I'm currently creating a list of the other Soap & Glory cosmetics I need to add to my collection :)

With love,

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint

I LOVE Barry M!!!!

I've been using them for years and I'm pretty sure I own practically every colour there is, so, when I found out that they were bringing out a new product, I knew that I just had to have it!!!

Gelly Hi Shine comes in 9 different colours and gives an extra glossy finish.

Up until last Christmas I had Gel nails done every 3 weeks and had been doing for about 5 years, aside from not having to worry about the colour chipping after a few days, one of the main things I loved about having Gels was how glossy the finish and how your nails still managed to retain that 'just left the salon' look a week later, so I was more than a little bit excited to give this a whirl!!!

I decided to go for 'Plum' a gorgeous dark purple shade, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before that purple is my all time favourite colour and when it gets to winter, the darker the purple, the better!!

Gelly Hi Shine comes in the signiture see through 10ml bottle with the only difference being the silver lid and writing on the bottle, I really like this little difference as I think it makes it look like a high end product :)

This nail polish applies like an absolute dream! No streaks, no bubbles, just a dead easy application, I didn't even get the dreaded overspill I usually get when applying nail varnish!

What I love about this nail varnish is that it looks pretty standard in the bottle but once you apply the polish onto the nail you see how glossy and thick (a nice thick!) the texture is.

This is after applying one coat of Gelly Hi Shine, as you can see just one coat has given glossy, full coverage.

This is after 2 coats, you could definetly get away with just applying one coat but I always like to apply 2 to get a lovely final finish.

My nails looked gorgeously glossy and shiny so I was in two minds whether or not I needed to apply a top coat, in the end I did apply one a couple of hours after painting my nails, I needed it to last for 2 days without chipping so I thought I might as well whack a coat of clear on!

This is with a top coat applied, as you can see, the colour still looks as shiny without!

Overally I'm incredibly impressed with this product (but when it comes to Barry M, I can't imagine being anything else!) goes on like a dream, leaves a lovely finish and is under £4!!

I've been looking at the other shades since using this one and there's a beautiful red shade which I think is going to be my next purchase!

I picked mine up in Boots but you can also buy from Superdrug and Barry M's website (www.barrym.com)

I know I put a top coat on but I had to share this with you, this photo was taken 4 days (that's right 4 days!) after I applied the nail polish and as you can see, it's not even started to chip around the edges!

Affordable, professional looking and long lasting, what more do you want from a nail polish?

Pearl Drops Beauty Sleep

Hi everyone!!

Hope you're well, sorry for being a bit quiet recently, had a busy weekend so I'm slowly trying to get back into the swing of things!

Anyway, today's first product review is on Pearl Drops Beauty Sleep.

I picked this up a few weeks ago in my local Boots for the grand total of £3.49, what intrigued me is that this isn't a toothpaste but a treatment to whiten teeth while protecting gums, now usually, most whitening products seem to neglect gums, after all what's the point in having beautiful pearly whites and unsightly gums?

Pearl Drops are marketing this as a serum for teeth, which I thought was novel seeing as though there's a pretty big hype with facial serums in the world of beauty at present.

Let me start of by saying that I really like the packaging! It reminds me a little bit of a mascara box and is one of my favourite colours, purple!

The back of the packaging, as you would expect lists all the information about the product you could ever wish to know and continues with the purple and white colour scheme.

And here's the product itself! It comes in a white squeezy tube with a twist off lid, the packaging reminds me of a lip gloss!

The actual serum is an opaque white gel which contains, active oxygen, Pearl Drops patented Liquid Calcium, Vitamin E and Mint oils.

The product is also dead easy to use, which is good, usually by night time I'm absolutely knackered and can't be doing with anything fiddly or time consuming!

According to the instructions you apply a pea sized amount of the serum and using your finger, rub onto the teeth and gums after brushing your teeth, the idea being that the serum will work its magic overnight, hence the beauty sleep!

As an afterthought they mention that ideally, the serum needs to be left on teeth for at least 30 minutes, so I suppose you could even use it in a morning before you leave the house!

Anyone who's used the product before will know what I mean when I say that it has the typical Pearl Drops texture, the mint oils make it smell absolutely lush as well! (Although it does remind me of the Sensodyne toothpaste I'm currently using too!)

The first time I used it, my mouth did feel a bit odd, it felt like there was some kind of film over my teeth and gums but by the next morning this feeling had completely gone, in fact my teeth felt unbelievably smooth, like that feeling you get when you've just left the Dentist!

There isn't really an indication of how long you should use the product for but I guess you can use it for as long as you like, the serum is also supposed to last for at least a month, I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and it still seems like there's a good deal left in the tube!

Now, in an attempt to answer the most important question, does this product actually work?

And the answer is, yes it does!

I've got to be honest and admit that I do use whitening toothpaste anyway, my teeth are straight thanks to wearing braces as a teen and I love the thought of having a white shiny smile, unfortunately the proper teeth whitening dentist type treatments are a little bit out of my budget so I'm willing to try pretty much anything that promises to give me lovely sparkly teeth!

The image above shows my teeth before I started using Pearl Drops Beauty Sleep, as you can see they're not 'Hollywood White' but they're not exactly badly discoloured either!

This is after using Pearl Drops Beauty Sleep after 2 weeks, and I think there is definitely a visible improvement in whiteness!

I have regular check ups with my dentist and never seem to have any gum problems so I can't comment on how effective it is at nourishing the gums but I've not had any reactions or noticed any problems occurring so it must be doing something!

For under £5 its definitely worth a go and I'd happily recommend it to anyone!

Has anyone else used this recently or can recommend any other good whitening products?

Natural Collection Moisture Shine Lipstick in Cherry Red

According to Burlesque Beauty Dita Von Teese ' Red lips are the height of glamour, the most chic beauty statement a woman can make'

And I've got to agree with her there! When ever I think of red lipstick my brain instantly conjures up images of movie stars from years gone by, beautiful, elegant and sophisticated.

Red lipstick is something I've always admired on others but never something that I thought would suit me, but while browsing one day I found a guide on the Boots website advising the best colours for certain skin types (http://www.boots.com/en/How-to-wear-red-lipstick_1039756/)

Apparently with my fair skin I should opt for a red lipstick with a 'blue or brown undertone' I'll be the first to admit I had absolutely no idea what this was supposed to mean!!

A few weeks ago I found time to look around my local Boots store and spent probably a good 20-25 minutes trying on all sorts of different testers on my hand (by the time I left the store I probably looked like I'd had an accident!)

I fell a little bit in love with a Soap and Glory Gloss Stick (a clever combination of gloss and lipstick) but at £8.00 I was in too minds, if I hated the product I'd wasted £8! So in the end I plumped for a moisturising lip stick from Boots own brand Natural Collection.

If I'm being perfectly honest, I've never been a fan of lipstick, I always find it quite dry and it can be quite unforgiving (not a good look for dry, flaky lips!) now maybe its because this particular item is a moisturising lipstick but it has a nice glossy finish, just like my beloved lip glosses!!!

To say its not a 'big brand' there was quite a few different reds to choose from ranging from raspberry to wine colours.

Remembering the advice of blue or brown undertones I attempted to look for this, although after a while all the colour variations start to look the same!

In the end I chose 'Cherry Red' I couldn't say for definite whether this has the blue or brown undertones but the tester I put on my hand seemed to suit my skin better than the others I tried.

The packaging is pretty basic, a white tube with the company name in black, the only colour on the packaging comes in the form of the colour swatch label stuck on the bottom of the tube, but for £1.99 I suppose you can't expect high end packaging.

While I'm not entirely bowled over by the packaging, the lipstick itself is a pleasant surprise!

It applies smoothly, doesn't run or bleed and actually makes my lips feel nice and soft.

(sorry that the picture's the wrong way round, I've been trying for ages to rotate it and I can't seem to do it!!!)

As you can see, the lipstick does provide a nice glossy finish on its own so I'm definitely impressed with this, I also really like the colour!

I doubt I'll wear this on a daily basis as it's probably a bit much for the office but I'll certainly be wearing it for nights out or special occasions.

Has anyone else used a red lipstick recently? If so I'd love to hear your thoughts/recommendations!

Pure Ultra Light BB Cream

Hope you're all having a nice weekend!

Today's review is on Pure's Ultra Light BB Cream, a sample I received from a UK company called Sublyme Cosmetics.

BB Cream's are the 'must have' product at the moment but just in case you haven't come across one before I'll give you a quick run down of what it is.

BB stands for Blemish Balm and they first appeared in Korea and Japan in the 80's, so while its a brand new innovation for us, it's actually been around for a good 20 years!

Basically, the BB Cream is a multi-purpose product, it can be used on its own to cover imperfections (pesky spots and dark circles), to contour, create radiance or used in conjunction with your usual foundation.

Ultra Light is actually a brand new product and isn't available yet but should be out soon, there are currently two shades already available, Light and Medium. I haven't tried the Medium so unfortunately I can't comment on that, but I have included a swatch of the Light version in the images below.

It's important to note that I'm not a fan of foundation, I find them too heavy for my skin and I prefer to use a tinted moisturiser, unfortunately I have quite fair skin so its not easy to find a tinted moisturiser that's light enough (for some reason they seem to cater these for darker skin tones!) I currently use Benefit's You Rebel Lite and I have been doing so for a good few years now, although its good at £23.50 its not the cheapest so I'm always on the look out for an alternative.

FYI: This is the packaging for  the 'Light' version, but I thought this would be good for reference!
The product is fragrance free and contains Aloe Vera, Collagen, Light reflecting and Mmineral pigments and Vitamin E. I thought this was pretty good for a 'budget' beauty product as you normally only tend to see these types of ingredients in more expensive, 'high end' products. (I've been advised that it will also be paraben free!)

Pure Ultra Light BB Cream

As you can see, the BB Cream is a quite nice, light colour which pleasantly surprised me, normally 'light' still has an oragney tint!

Top: Pure Ultra Light BB Cream
Bottom: Benefit You Rebel Lite

I always thought Benefit's version was a good match for my skin, but alongside Pure's version I thought it looked far too yellow for my skin tone!

As promised Pure Ultra Light & Light BB Cream
Above is the swatch of the 'Light' version as promised, as you can see there is a definite difference in the colours, in fact I'd have thought the 'Light' was more of a medium shade, all though this would be far too dark for my skin normally I'd think the 'Light' version  would come in handy when I have a tan.

Ultra Light is a lovely product! It was incredibly easy to apply and blended like a dream (no tide-marks or tell tale lines) I had it on all day and it honestly felt like I wasn't wearing any make-up at all, it lasted a full day at work and didn't budge until I removed it at night (Having combination skin this is a brilliant result)

It also gives a light even coverage and suits fair skin perfectly. (FYI if you're a foundation fan its probably worth noting that it is more like a tinted moisturiser, however, I'm sure you could mix the two products together to achieve the desired result)

Pure Ultra Light BB Cream rubbed in.

The above image shows how the BB Cream looks on skin once applied, granted I didn't use a sponge or brush, but I think this shows how easily it does blend and shows off the sheer coverage perfectly.

I haven't used any other BB Creams prior to this so cannot really compare it against the others currently on the market but I do like this one! In fact, I would go as far as to say when my Benefit You Rebel Lite runs out, I will be heading out to buy this little beauty!

Pure's Light and Medium BB Cream's are currently available to purchase at Savers, Bodycare, Home Bargains and Discount UK.

It is also available through online retailers Amazing Face UK (http://www.amazingface-uk.com) they also sell through eBay!

As I said earlier on in my post, Ultra Light hasn't hit the shops yet so if you want to keep up date on its release it may be worth following Pure or Amazing Face on Twitter (@PURE_Facecare or @AmazingfaceUK)

If anyone else has used this I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend

Latest in Beauty Aveda Sample

I've only just received my first beauty box from Latest in Beauty but when I received an email from them 3 days ago offering my a sample of Aveda's new shampoo and conditioner range, I was quick to accept!

As with my previous order, the sample arrived pretty quickly.

This is from their new range called the invati system

The sample contains a 10ml Exfoliating Shampoo and a 10ml Thickening Conditioner.
It also comes with two little cards explaining how to use the products and listing the ingredients.

The blurb on the pack would indicate that this range is suited for people with thin hair, mines not exactly thin, but I don't know many people who would say no to luxuriously thick locks!

I've never come across an exfoliating shampoo before so I'm excited to try this!

This also came with the sample which I thought was a nice touch, an invite to have an Aveda Experience!

You take the invitation to your local Aveda counter and receive a free cuppa, hand massage and a consultation for haircare, styling or skincare!

I'll do a full review on the Shampoo and Conditioner as soon as I can!

17 Fast Finish Nail Polish - Navy Glint

First of all, let me start off by saying that I ADORE Navy! It comes in every autumn/winter and I just love it!

I also love anything sparkly, I guess I must have been a magpie in a previous life!

So if anything combines these 2 things I'll be pretty impressed!

I already own 2 navy nail polishes (1 from Barry M and 1 from Rimmel) and funnily enough I was wearing the Barry M one when I purchased this 17 version from Boots last week.

17 seem to be exclusive to Boots so this is the only place you'll be able to pick it up. They don't have their own website but you can find them on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

The bottle is brandishing a 'new' sticker so I'm guessing it must be new shade released for this season, it was also a purse pleasing price of £2.99

As you can see, it looks lovely and sparkly while it's still in the bottle :D

Its quite a typical 'navy' colour (if there is such a thing as a typical navy) with flecks of white/silver glitter.

The polish is a nice consistency, not to thin and not too thick and covers well.

Because it applies well you probably could get away with only using one coat, I wanted a full on colour though so I applied 2 coats, it also dried pretty quickly which is always a bonus, I hate sat around waiting for my nails to dry not daring to touch anything ... or breathe! (okay, that last point might be a bit excessive, but you know what I mean)

I must say that I'm pretty impressed with the colour! My main concern with shimmery/glittery finishes is that they can sometimes look a bit OTT for general everyday use, but this one is actually quite subtle.

You can tell the glitter is there but, like its name, its more of a glint.

See what I mean? I'd like to point out that I haven't applied a top coat, its usually my rule of thumb to whack on a top coat as soon as my polish is dry but this one looks so nice and glossy without it so I decided not to bother!

I usually find that glitter polishes seem to go longer without chipping too so I'm interested to see how this one pans out.

Little Beauty Box

Hey everyone!

Hope you're having a good week so far.

I was thrilled when I got home earlier to find this waiting for me

Latest in Beauty's Little Beauty Box!!!

Last week someone I follow on Twitter tweeted about Latest in Beauty, I saw the words 'beauty box' mentioned and I was instantly intrigued!

A quick Google search later and I found their website (http://www.latestinbeauty.com)

Bascially, you set up with an account with Latest in Beauty and they send you free samples (hair, make-up, skin care, fragrance, you name it!) I guess the idea is that you try it before you go and buy it!

There's 3 different options, there's the Little Beauty Box, Luxury Samples and the Editors Beauty Box.

I decided to start from the bottom and have a go with the Little Beauty Box (this is advertised as free  but you get a confirmation code sent to your mobile which costs £1.50, so technically its not free, but its not exactly going to break the bank either!)

After filling in my confirmation code I received an email confirmation advising that my beauty box would arrive within 72 hours.

The little pink box just fits through your letterbox so you don't have to worry about going out and missing the post! You can probably just see on the bit of white label that's left on the top of the box, that they confirm which samples have been sent.

My 3 samples are as follows:

Japonesque Beauty Fixation Touch Up
Tresemme Split Remedy Trio (I've already reviewed this but there wasn't anything else I wanted to try so I'm giving this to my Mum, such a good daughter!)
The Sanctuary Spa 30 Day Thermal Transformation.

And even better I can order again at the end of this month and get some more trial sized products!

I'll do full reviews on Japonesque and Sanctuary as soon as I can!

October Buys

Pinch, punch, it's the first of the month!!!

Happy October everyone!

I had to nip out earlier to fetch some samples for work and while I was out I felt it was only fair to have a peek in the shops to see what was new so I decided to treat myself to some Autumn goodies!!!

From left to right we have:

Black lace dress from H&M (£14.99) I'm probably the only person who doesn't own a plain black dress! My friend is having a black dress and coloured tights theme for her hen do in a couple of weeks so I had to buy a dress, I didn't really want to spend a fortune so I was pleased when I found this! I like the fact that it's lacough lace seems to be in every year.

Next up we have some indigo supersoft jeans from Primark (£11.00) I usually buy my jeans from Topshop but I bought a pair of burgundy supersoft jeans from Primark last Winter and they are without a doubt the comfiest jeans I have ever owned! I always like to wear really dark coloured jeans once it gets to this time of year so thought I'd give these ones a try.

Another Primark item is the black and white houndstooth jumper (£12.00) I've got loads of jumpers already but I guess you can never have too many right? In case you've been living under a rock, houndstooth is a big trend for Autumn/Winter 2012, they also had this jumper in a pink and black version. I don't think you can ever go wrong with black and white though, it always looks effortlessly classy, the jumper is also suprisingly thick for £12.00! Bargain!

The second jumper I bought is from H&M (£14.99) when I think of Winter I always think of sparkle and this jumper definitley fits the bill!
I'm not sure if its that clear on my picture but its an emerald green colour with silver sparkly thread running through it, they also had this in a few different other colours but the green one was my favourite!

And finally we have some dark purple jeans, also from H&M (£14.99) I saw a similar pair to this in Primark but they didn't have any left in my size! Typical!
Purple is my favourite colour and I was a bit gutted thinking I wouldn't be able to get any, but then low and behold, I found these in H&M!
Although they're not branded as being supersoft or anything like that they do feel quite nice and soft so I'm interested to see how I get on with them.
They might be a few pounds more than the ones I saw in Primark but I still don't think £15.00 is bad for a pair of jeans when I'm used to spending £40.00!

I'd nipped into Superdrug to pick up some nail dry spray for my Mum and when having a casual browse I came across this!

It's from a brand called MeMeMe, I'm guessing they must be exclusive to Superdrug as I've not seen their products anywhere else.

What attracted me at first is the fact that it looks like Benefit Posietint, which I currently use, it's in a similar sized and coloured bottle and the name 'Poppytint' is pretty similar too.

The only thing that isn't the same is the price tag, Posietint normally sets me back £24.50 a time whereas Poppytint is £5.65, at only a fraction of the price I figured it couldn't hurt to try it and I will be giving this a whirl when my Posietint has run out.

I'll do an individual review on this later
